Same tactics, same rival, same result. A mere four days after withstanding a sustained first-over push from Modern Best, Docs Ronhenry ($6.00) did so once again to record a 2:02.2 victory in Sunday afternoon's (Aug. 16) $1,250 winners-over pacing feature at Inverness Raceway.
Trainer-driver Leander Beaton once again used the pole to his advantage with the nine-year-old Million Dollar Cam gelding, and the pair controlled glacial early splits of :31.1 and 1:03.1 before Modern Best (Redmond Doucet) emerged out of fourth to force a quickening pace on the second circuit. Modern Best worked to within a half length of Docs Ronhenry past three-quarters in 1:33.3, and while she maintained her persistent pressure through the final quarter, she could get no closer.
Docs Ronhenry refused to yield, defending his ground to win by a half length over his familiar foe. Eastwardho Fun (Alexander MacDonald) was a one-paced third from the pocket.
Leander Beaton co-owns 23-time winner Docs Ronhenry with Donald Beaton.
