Snack Attack held off a three-pronged attack in the stretch to prevail in the $15,500 Preferred for male pacers at Grand River Raceway on Friday, Aug. 14.
Campaign by the training and driving duo of Ashleigh and Ed Hensley, the four-year-old Stay Hungry-Bridge To Tomorrow gelding won by a neck over Instantaneous (Samuel Fillion), with Blue Bar (Jason Ryan) third and R J Ringo (Garrett Rooney) fourth in the close finish.
Snack Attack looped longshot leaver Wilcat Rocky (J Harris) at the quarter pole in :26.4 then took the field of nine through middle splits of :55.2 and 1:23.4. Blue Bar, the 3-5 favourite, raced first-up during the middle half with Instantaneous on his cover while a three-wide Pac Man Hanover (Austin Sorrie) was unable to sustain his momentum in the final turn. Snack Attack turned for home with a two-length advantage but Blue Bar was closing in and Instantaneous surged to his outside with trailing tier starter R J Ringo late onto the scene widest of all. Hungry for the win, Snack Attack finished it off in 1:52.4.
Snack Attack, who was third in his last appearance at Grand River two starts ago on Industry Day, was the 5-1 third choice on the tote board and paid $12 to win.
The former Little Brown Jug starter has won three of his 13 starts this year, pushing his lifetime earnings to nearly $350,000.
