Perfection has been abound for the undefeated Tobins Chester and he puts his streak to the test during Atlantic Sires Stakes action on Wednesday (Aug. 16) evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval will host an 11-dash program of Old Home Week racing with the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts having $11,420 A divisions in races four, six and 10.
Tobins Chester has yet to be bested in four lifetime tries and will look to pump up his bankroll from post three for trainer-driver Jason Hughes and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The Shanghai Phil colt has five foes Wednesday evening including post two starter Howmac General (Patrick Shepherd) and post six entrant Harry Holmes (Marc Campbell).
The "Post Time Picks" peg Tobins Chester on top: “Tobins Chester looks like the dominant force in the whole division of rookie colts. Until he gets beat, we’re not even going to consider other options.”
The $11,420 A division in race four has Tobins Barn Party as the morning line choice with post three for trainer-driver Hughes and owner MacRae. Another son of Shanghai Phil from the Wendell Williams Standardbred nursery in Ellerslie, P.E.I., the colt has three second-place finishes but no wins so far in his career. Two-time winner Dunsan Harry will leave from post two with Corey MacPherson in tow while Pauls Crown (Campbell) has rail control.
Race six has another $11,420 A-split and Merigo Magic gets the top billing with post four for driver Adam Merner, trainer Melissa Rennie and owners Mike May, Herman McQuaid, Derrick Cameron and Ian Walker. The Tobago Cays pacer will take on Little Leroy (MacPherson), Jackie Boy (Myles Heffernan Sr.) and three others.
The evening also features $4,000 Atlantic Sires Stakes B divisions for rookie colts in races two and eight.
