Two-year-old pacing colts Untouchable One and Accelerated Force kept their Atlantic Sires Stakes records perfect with victories in Wednesday night's leg at Charlottetown Driving Park.
Untouchable One ($2.50) earned his third ATSS trophy while lowering the track record for freshman pacing geldings to 1:56.2 in his $7,880 division for trainer Sean Dooley and his Dooley Boys Racing Stable.
Kenny Arsenault sent the heavy favourite to the lead from post six and reached the first quarter mark in :28-seconds. Untouchable One then proceeded to the half in :56.2 and three-quarters in 1:26.4 before cruising home for the 1:56.2 triumph. The mile time lowered Imps Finesse's gelding mark by three-fifths of a second and was just two-fifths of a second off the overall male record, set by Astronomical in 2004. T M Valley Storm and Anthony MacDonald followed one and a quarter lengths behind off a pocket trip and the Clare MacDonald-driven Scamp Finesse came in third.
The Carlspur-Bolero Tam Tam gelding finished second in his career debut and has strung together four consecutive wins since to bring his bankroll to $13,907. He is a half-brother to former Dooley trainee Big League, who went undefeated as a two-year-old.
Accelerated Pace ($4.20) also picked up his third straight victory in ATSS action in a personal best 1:57.3 clocking with Mike Stevenson in the sulky.
Accelerated Pace fired to the lead from post seven, led the way past fractions of :29.2, :59.3, and 1:29.2 and turned back a first over challenge from Woodmere Comical and Shane Bernard. The popular Wade Sorrie trainee then opened up a pair of lengths on his foes in the stretch before hitting the wire. Colbys Comet and Darren Crowe finished second while Positivelyplatnium and Greg Sparling rounded out the top three finishers.
The Force Of Life-Heather Candido colt, who has three wins and one second place finish on his resume with $12,387 earned in purses, is a full-brother to multiple stakes winner Accelerated Force. He is owned by Boyd Macdonald Prodce Ltd. and Daniel Ross.
The Rev and Koultons Rocket were the other two 'A' division winners and both colts scored their first wins in the ATSS program.
Trained and driven by Danny Romo, The Rev ($3.60) established the lead from post four in his division and carved out fractions of :29.2, :59.2 and 1:28.2 en route to a two and three-quarter length victory in 1:57, which was a career-best clocking. The favourite was followed by longshot Put To The Test, driven by Darren Crowe, and Its My Turn with Jason Hughes.
The Western Paradise-Red Sea colt, who was involved in an accident in his first career start, now sports a record reading 2-2-0 in five outings with $7,901 banked in purses for owners Robert Skinner, Jeffrey Skinner, Stephen Tufts, and the GLB Stable. He is a full-sibling to four-time ATSS sophomore filly champion Seeyouonthebeach and half-brother to sub-1:50 pacer Future Character ($466,446).
In the other split, Koultons Rocket ($5.70) cleared to command past the :29.3 opening quarter mark and led the field past middle splits of 1:00.2 and 1:31.1 en route to victory lane. The winning time was 2:00. Slight favourite Scarlet Chaser and John Holmes followed one and three-quarter lengths behind in second while Watersides Kipper, driven by Hilliard Graves, rallied home to show.
The Articulator-Ima Snortin Too colt also boasts two wins and a pair of second-place finishes in five career starts. He has earned $6,083 in purses for owners Roy Wpringett and John Ashley.
Three $2,500 'B' divisions were won by the maiden-breaking Saulsbrook Astrobo ($16.30), who went from last to first in 2:01.3 for driver Danny Romo and trainer Cyril MacDonald; the front-stepping Mr Rock ($12) and trainer-driver Dave Kelly in 2:02.4; and Wheredidchago ($10), who rallied home to score his first win by a quarter length in 2:02.3 with trainer Michael Downey aboard.
