No Imminent Construction At Alberta Downs

Waiting on permits is frustrating Alberta Downs' owner Robert Allen, who must wait to hear about applications submitted to Alberta Environment

until late September or October.

According to an article in the Lacombe Globe, Allen has done everything he can to expedite the process but his track - on which he had hoped to conduct thoroughbred or quarter-horse later this month - might be ready for more harness racing sometime in October.

“I’m working with Alberta Environment and Lacombe County but these things take time," Allen told the Globe. "You can’t hurry the process, as frustrating as the waiting can be.”

The track was not required to have developmental approval while it was zoned as agricultural land, but that changed when Lacombe county council approved rezoning for a possible gaming facility. Gaming expansion is currently under a moratorium in Alberta.
