After an early break in stride Silver Beast saw himself with a sizeable deficit but circled up to win the featured Dr. Blair Kelly Memorial Pace on Friday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as part of Gold Cup and Saucer week racing.

Dale Spence was behind the MacKenzie MacInnis trainee in the Kelly Memorial, presented by the Charlottetown Vet Clinic, but was on the run behind the gate before catching back on stride to get away last. Paris Beau (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) then sliced out the front-end fractions of 29.2, 59.1 and 1:28.2 with Silver Beast beginning a three-wide advance from the back before getting up in the final strides. Paris Beau was second while Tempo Seelster (Ken Murphy) finished third.

Silver Beast, a four-year-old son of Betterthancheddar, stopped the clock in 1:57.2 for owner Island Silver Stable of Kelvin Grove.

Gilles Barrieau scored a driving triple to give him the early lead in the Francis McIsaac Memorial top driver standings as Thebossisagirl (1:57.4) won from the Ron Matheson stable, Ebandtheboys (1:58) was a winner for New Brunswick trainer Doug Beckwith and The Time To Win (1:57.2) hit the wire first for trainer Jackie Matheson.

Trainer Andrew Williams of Richmond scored the first win of his career as Major Gravity won race 3 in 1:58.1 with David Dowling aboard.
