Todd Trites put on a major league performance during Tuesday’s 10-dash card of harness racing at Fredericton Raceway. Trites won exactly half of the races on the night, including his 25th triumph of the season at the local oval.

Trites' fastest of his five wins came with a former Walter Dale champion. P H Bestman scored an eight-length victory in 1:56.3 for owner, Dr. Jim Shive of Rines Creek, NS. A seven-year-old stallion, P H Bestman earned the 35th win of his career, including the prestigious Walter Dale win in 1:55.3 in 2010.

The dominant effort moved Trites within six victories of dash-winning leader Gilles Barrieau on the season. Barrieau was competing in Atlantic Sires Stakes activity during Charlottetown's Old Home Week.

P H Bestman provided Trites with his second win of the night for the Shive family.

P H Thunder scored earlier in the program by more than 12 lengths in a new mark of 1:57.3. Trites also guided Woodmere Bigsplash to an eye-catching win.

Owned by Capital A Investments and Valerie Phelan, Woodmere Bigsplash went wire to wire in 1:58, capturing the Trius Truck Center Pace.

Trites also scored with Nicoles Baby in 2:00 and Camco Wineette in 2:00.2.

Other winners on the card were Battle Gear (Scott Hubbard) in 2:03, Full Of Finesse (Dale Spence) in 1:59, Villa Max (Ed Harvey) in 2:02, Blue Man Group (Mike Barrieau) in 2:00.1 and Dance Hanover (Wayne Watson) in 1:59.4.

Racing resumes at Fredericton on Labour Day at 1:00 p.m., kicking off FREX Week 2012.

At Charlottetown last night, Edgewater Shadowfax won a leg of the Alpine Claiming Series for driver Mike Stevenson in 1:57.1. The mare is owned by Linda Hughes and Bill Smythe of Fredericton.

This season's Walter Dale winner, Mcapulco has drawn post six in the 53rd running of the Gold Cup and Saucer. Wagering on the big race will be available at Winner's Lounge in Fredericton on Saturday evening.
