Undefeated pacing sensation Windemere Skye returns to action on Friday, Aug. 14 as the P.E.I. Colt Stakes takes centre stage at the beginning of Old Home Week at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has a 15-dash presentation starting at 6 p.m. (ADT), featuring a pair of $18,850 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies along with $9,425 Grassroots splits for the sophomore lasses.
Windemere Skye headlines the first Gold division in race seven from post three with Marc Campbell driving for trainer Earl Watts and P.E.I. owners Windemere Farms of Springvale and Matt Burke of Stratford. The Windemere Farms homebred daughter of Somewhere Fancy-Howmac Missy has never tasted defeat in 17 lifetime starts while banking $169,301.
The champion filly has won all five of her starts this season, including a 1:56 victory in her latest race on July 17 at Red Shores Summerside in P.E.I. Colt Stakes action. She was subsequently scratched from an Atlantic Sires Stakes engagement at Truro Raceway on July 24 and now returns to competition Friday while adding Lasix.
Serenity Now will provide major opposition from post four with Jason Hughes driving for trainer Ashley Gamester. The Sportswriter-Silent Serenity filly has three wins from five starts this season and owns a 1:55.4 lifetime mark taken at the Truro Raceway in a division of the Frank & Beth Stanfield Memorial Stakes. Bakers Dozen has post two for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer John Clarey while Covered In Purple (Gilles Barrieau, post one) and Shinerunner (David Dowling, post five) complete the compact Gold field.
The second $18,850 Gold division lines up in race 14 with Elm Grove Uncannie favoured leaving from post two for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Joe Baxter. The Malicious-Jens Credit filly has finished first or second in all five of her starts this season and enters off a runner-up finish to Alwaysinfullforce in 1:54.1 in the Atlantic Sires Stakes at Truro. Baxter co-owns the filly with Earith Riley of Summerside, P.E.I.
Alwaysinfullforce starts directly to her outside from post three with Gilles Barrieau driving for trainer Mike McGuigan. The daughter of Force N Fury-Toujours has five victories from nine starts this season and won her latest outing, the aforementioned Sires Stakes in 1:54.1.
Going For Blood has the inside post for trainer/driver Ken Arsenault after winning two of her last three starts, including a 1:56 Atlantic Sires Stakes score at Truro. Bayonetta has post four with Marc Campbell aboard for trainer Landon Campbell while Mysterious Ways (Jason Hughes, post five), who has won her last two starts, and Beach Jewels (David Dowling, post six) round out the field.
The P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies carry purses of $9,425 each and will be contested in races one, too, three, five, 11 and 12.
Race 10 is the MacDonald Family Pace for two-year-old fillies with a $8,000 purse. Cafe De Flore (Ken Murphy) is the top selection from post four from the Saul Lanigan Stable. The daughter of Stay Hungry-Jennys Terror was second in her last start while race timed in 1:57.2.
