Niceandup and horseman Guy Boulianne were victorious in the 107th edition of Le 5 Milles Casino-Charlevoix on Sunday afternoon (August 13) in Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs, Que.
Niceandup won the $10,000 five-mile marathon in a time of 11:33.2 by three lengths over Ok Diablo (Jocelyn Gendron). Finishing 10 lengths behind, Force Seelster (Mario Charron) was third ahead of Big Sport (Steeven Genois) and the defending champion Three Rockets (Stephane Gendron). Sea Donkey (Pierre-Luc Roy), the 2015 Le 5 Milles winner, was a distant sixth while the rest of the field pulled up and did not finish.
Niceandup was one of two mares in the field and the only one to complete the race. She paid $24.30 to win.
Boulianne trains and owns the homebred eight-year-old Ontheupandup-Fly My Beaut mare, who has won 14 races lifetime and just under $45,000 in purses. He was also in the sulky for a rare driving appearance, notching his first win since 2007.
