Foxy Lady followed up two straight stakes wins at The Meadows with a hard-fought Pennsylvania Sire Stakes victory on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono
Downs. It was one of two Sire Stakes, each of which carried a purse of $103,356, that were held at Pocono for three-year-old fillies on the pace.
Leaving from post position No. 8 in a field of nine as the 4-5 favourite, Foxy Lady, fresh off wins at The Meadows in a Sire Stakes and the Adioo Volo, settled fourth in the early going before taking over the lead with a first-over brush on the back stretch. Following her cover, Virgin Mary came at her strong in the stretch, but Foxy Lady, driven by Matt Kakaley for trainer Ron Burke, dug in and won by a nose in 1:52. Jolting Kate finished third.
The daughter of Real Desire-Judy Is a Fox is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, JJK Stables LLC, and Phillip Collura.
In the night’s other Sire Stakes division, Strike An Attitude, driven by Tyler Buter and trained by Robert McIntosh, led for much of the mile and held off Fresh Idea to win by a length in 1:53.1. Mikayla Rose finished third.
Strike An Attitude now has just two wins in 2011 after a stellar two-year-old campaign, but both of those victories came in Pennsylvania Sire Stakes competition. The Western Hanover-Strike A Balance filly is owned by the Ontario-based Robert McIntosh Stables Inc. along with the C S X Stables and Jerry Silva.
