Seaside Diva rallied from the back of the pack to win the first of two $55,000 divisions of the Ohio Sires Stakes for two-year-filly pacers at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Friday (Aug. 11). In the other division, Daisy Star held off late challengers to come home victorious.
In the first division, Seaside Diva and Chris Page trailed the seven-horse field as they hit the half-mile pole. Heading up the backstretch, Seaside Diva started to move, going three-wide around the final turn to grab the lead at the top of the stretch. The daughter of Downbytheseaside turned on the gas and pulled away to win by 2-1/2 lengths in a new lifetime mark of 1:51.2. Rose Run Zoey was second with Flyin Bullets third.
It was the fourth win in seven starts for the Ron Burke trainee. Three of her wins have been in Ohio Sires Stakes action. Owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Knox Services and Let It Ride Stable, Seaside Diva has earned $139,250.
In the other division, Daisys Star and Sam Widger took the lead just past the quarter pole and fought off late challengers to win by a quarter-length in a new lifetime mark of 1:53.1. Around the final turn, the Racing Hill filly fought off a challenge from Heartofthesea and then held off a late charge from Genetic Edge to claim the win. Genetic Edge was second with Beautiful Lather finishing third.
It was the second win of the year in eight starts for Daisys Star, who is trained by Johnson Hill Jr. Both wins have come in Sires Stakes action. Daisys Star has earned $74,376 this year for owner Brent Tartar.
Ohio Sires Stakes action continues on Saturday (Aug. 12) night at MGM Northfield Park with freshman colt pacers and trotters.
