Woodbine Mohawk Park featured a card comprised of the Dream Maker Series final, Whenuwishuponastar Series final, Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots, and a Free For All top pace on Saturday (Aug. 12) evening with Anthony Beaton trainees shining in the two series finales.
Legendary Hanover was legendary in his six-horse field going for $84,500 in the Dream Maker final for two-year-old pacers.
Bob McClure and the Beaton trainee got away third from the rail with At Ease Hanover (Sylvain Filion) leading the pack and Cupid Shuffle (Louis-Philippe Roy) in second as they clocked the opening panel in :27. McClure tipped Legendary Hanover first-over and sent him straight to the top, where he continued to open up through panels in :56 and 1:23.1. Legendary Hanover used a last quarter in :26.4 to step off to a 9-1/4-length achievement in 1:50. At Ease Hanover finished second and Cupid Shuffle rounded out the top three.
West Wins Stable, Eric Good and Mark Dumain co-own the Huntsville-Lillian Hanover colt, who is three-for-three so far in his career, earning $60,250. Legendary Hanover paid $4.40 to win.
Elodie Hanover followed a similar trip to stablemate Legendary Hanover in her five-horse field going for $75,500 in the Whenuwishuponastar final for two-year-old pacing fillies.
Reigning Jade (McClure) led the field to the opening panel in :27.4 and her efforts were followed by Staying With Emily (Tyler Jones) and Elodie Hanover (Tyler Borth). Borth and Elodie Hanover took command before the half in :56.2 and maintained the lead through the three-quarters in 1:25.4. With a :26.2 last quarter, Elodie Hanover won by two lengths in 1:52.1. Reigning Jade was second and Staying With Emily rounded out the top three.
Owned by West Wins Stable and Pit Bull Stable, Elodie Hanover (Betting Line-Emily R Hanover) is also trained by Beaton as she moved her seasonal record to 2-1-1 in four starts for earnings totalling $52,150. It was a career-best effort for the freshman filly, who paid $7.10 to win.
Three Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots divisions went to the gate on Saturday evening for the third leg of the series for sophomore trotting colts and geldings.
New Rules (Austin Sorrie) made every pole a winning one in his $22,600 division of nine young men, setting the tempo through panels in :27, :56.1 and 1:25.1. The Marcel Barrieau trainee pressed forward to win by 4-1/2 lengths in 1:53.1. Darbyshire (Borth) was second and Dowedealinandwhy (Sylvain Filion) finished third.
Owned by Gestion Mastel Inc. and Barrieau, the Lookslikeachpndale gelding now shows a record of 3-4-2 in 11 starts this season with $58,220 earned. New Rules paid $3.60 to win.
DWs Point Man (Roy) swooped up the second OSS Grassroots division and the winner's share of the $22,200 purse. The Richard Moreau trainee sat second through the quarter in :26.4 and half in :56.1 before moving first over at the three-quarters in 1:24.4. DWs Point Man took over and kept on going, holding off Floyd The Freak (Ed Hensley) in the stretch to win by a neck in 1:53.4. Resolve To Win (Borth) was third.
Owned by Ecurie Csl and 9174 7998 Quebec Inc., the sophomore My MVP gelding won his first race in six starts this season. He paid $8.80 to win.
Like Chaos and Trevor Henry capped off the OSS action for the evening in the $22,200 division of eight. Like Chaos sat fourth through panels in :27.1 and :56.3 before tipping out at the 1:25.4 third quarter. Henry and the Bruce Richardson trainee kept on rolling to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:54. The Great Emotion (Roy) was second and The Great Reset (Lorne House) finished third.
Richardson co-owns the Lookslikeachpndale gelding with Joseph Coffey. A career-best effort, it was Like Chaos' eighth win in 17 starts this season, yielding $89,710 in seasonal earnings. He paid $4.30 to win.
Momas Son Byrne rode the pocket trip to victory in the $48,000 Free For All Pace with Jonathan Drury in the bike for trainer Carmen Auciello.
Carbine (Phil Hudon) was the pacesetter for the mile, leading the field of eight through panels in :26.3, :54.2 and 1:22.1. All the while, Momas Son Byrne kept at his heels. Down the stretch, Momas Son Byrne tipped out and challenged the leader and Warrawee Vital (Trevor Henry), who popped out of third. Momas Son Byrne prevailed by a neck in 1:49.2 with Warrawee Vital second and Carbine third.
Owned by Daniel Sarafian, the five-year-old Sunshine Beach gelding collected his fifth win of the year, putting his seasonal earnings at $135,570. In his career, he has earned $243,155 from 16 wins. Momas Son Byrne paid $10.70 to win.
