The four-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding Fashiononthebeach took control early and sped clear of his competition to take the $11,500 Preferred 2 Pace at Georgian Downs on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Driver J Harris cleared command from pylon-starter Joes Bid and posted a pace of :26.4 and :55.3. The Richard Moreau trainee then sprinted to a seven-length lead approaching three-quarters in 1:22.3 and coasted to the finish in 1:51.2 while Pretty Handsome, the odds-on favourite, cut into the deficit to take second, two-and-a-half lengths behind. American Wiggle finished third.

Owned by Brad Grant, Fashiononthebeach won his third race from 19 starts this season and his sixth from 45 overall, earning $155,481. He paid $6.80 to win.

Jimbelina jetted from the pocket to take the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace in 1:54. The six-year-old Big Jim mare stalked splits of :27.3, :57 and 1:25.2 set by Make Mine Mocha while Filly Forty Seven, from fourth, mounted a first-over bid passing the half. Jimbelina got shuffled to the rear of the field before angling around horses for the stretch drive and overtaking favourite Azure Seelster, who kicked to the front from second over, to win by a length. Southwind Ion took third.

Owned by Roland Trudel, Jimbelina won her third race from 10 starts this season and her 16th from 42 overall, earning $139,710. Colin Kelly steered the $7.10 winner for trainer Raphael Bourassa.
