Following a string of runner-up finishes against Woodbine Mohawk Park's top distaffers, Dabarndawgswatchin stole the show in this week's $32,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Friday night (Aug. 11).
Driven by Louis-Philippe Roy, Dabarndawgswatchin went on the attack midway through the final turn from fifth and blew by the slightly favoured millionairess, So Much More (Jody Jamieson), who had taken the lead at the :26.2 first quarter mark and fronted the field of six through middle splits of :54.2 and 1:22.3. Kicking home in :26.3, Dabarndawgswatchin just missed her lifetime mark, winning in 1:49.4 by one length over another late-closer, Style For A Mile (Sylvain Filion). Western Wish (Tyler Borth) edged out So Much More for the show money.
Dabarndawgswatchin, who won a pair of Preferred 2 events back in May, improved her seasonal summary to 3-7-3 from 16 starts. She paid $4.20 to win.
Lifetime, the five-year-old homebred mare by Hes Watching out of Addison Bay has won 18 races and $561,454 in purses for owners Julie Ferguson of Greely, Ont. and Lloyd Stone of Portland, Ont.
