During the opening of the Arnprior Fair on Thursday, August 5, Arnprior Agricultural Society President Jeff Desarmia was met with enthusiasm when he proclaimed that harness racing would be coming back to the town
in Ontario's Renfrew County.
An article on yourottawaregion.com states that a large new barn at the fairgrounds will be built by an unnamed solar energy company in order to make the return of racing possible.
The article quotes Desarmia as saying that, "With this (the return of harness racing), there is no need to sell the property." The report also cites Desarmia as saying that the society turned down a purchase offer from a developer in June.
Hec Clouthier, who stepped down as executive director of the Ontario Horse Racing Association in April, was also on hand for the announcement.
