With her Ontario Sires Stakes Mid-Season Final set for August 15, rookie pacing filly Chantilly tightened for a possible appearance in that event with a solid effort during the session of qualifiers on Saturday, Aug. 10 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Louis-Philippe Roy picked up the assignment on the Nick Gallucci trainee during Saturday's outing, subbing for a P.E.I.-bound James MacDonald. Chantilly sat third behind pacesetter Vendetta Blue Chip (Sylvain Filion) through opening splits of :30.1 and 1:00.1 before making a bid for the lead around the far turn.
That bid didn't last long, as Chantilly quickly and powerfully accelerated by the pacesetter and leaded on the lead with ease. After tripping that third timer in 1:28.2, Chantilly sped home through a :27.2 final quarter for the 1:56.1 score. Century Lucifer (Tyler Borth) was next best, just over two lengths back with three-year-old Catch My Breath (Bob McClure) doing just that to keep up and round out the top three.
Chantilly (Big Jim-Shiraz Seelster) is owned by her breeder, Millar Farms of Stouffville, Ont. The filly is perfect in two appearances, with her 1:50.4 mile on July 16 still the swiftest for a two-year-old pacing filly in North America this year (matched by Beach Rules on July 26).
