Boo Yaya put the finishing touches on a driving triple from the ‘King’ of Island racing as Old Home Week harness racing began on Thursday (Aug. 10) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The $2,600 featured event had Boo Yaya and driver Marc Campbell protect the rail from the start and release Maggiesdelight to the lead at the first fraction of :28.1 then move out to retake before the second turn. The half was tripped in :56.4 with three-quarters of 1:26.2 before Boo Yaya sprinted to a 1:55 victory.

Campbell was in the seat for trainer Carrie Saunders and owners Kurt, Mark and Roger Harper, all of Nova Scotia.

Second went to Maggiesdelight (Corey MacPherson) with Woodmere Rolllily (Adam Merner) third and Tobins Brownie (David Dowling) fourth for a complete sweep for Atlantic Sires Stakes graduates in the dash.

Campbell also won race one of the night with I Can Do It (2:00.1) for trainer Keith Ford and race seven with Zack The Men (1:57.3) for Michael MacDonald as part of his triple to give him a strong start in the Francis McIsaac Memorial standings for top driver of Old Home Week.

Another multiple McIsaac memorial winner, driver Gilles Barrieau, tripled up on the evening starting with an 18-length romp in race three with Alcina in 1:58.1 from the Jeff Holmes stable. Outrageous Style gave Barrieau his second win in 1:57.2 in race eight for trainer Ron Matheson while Labero completed the triple in race 10 with a 1:59.2 score for Randy Van Meer.

Live harness racing continues Friday (Aug. 11) evening at 7 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
