Buckhead Ridge will be vying for his eighth straight win for trainer Landon Campbell in the featured Open Handicap Trot on Thursday, July 10 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 13-dash program gets underway at 6 p.m. (ADT), with the $4,000 top trot scheduled as the 10th race.
Buckhead Ridge, the 5-2 morning line favourite, has been handicapped with the outside post seven with Gilles Barrieau picking up the catch-driving assignment for owner Brady Doyle of Stratford, P.E.I. Barrieau has driven the five-year-old Nuncio-Tuonela gelding in two of his last seven wins, including a season's best 1:56.4 score in mid-May.
Top contenders in the field include Fight Song (post six), a runner-up in their last two match-ups, with Jason Hughes driving for Ashley Gamester, and the Corey MacPherson-reined and trained Rocket Blast (post five).
Trainer Bill Lanigan's phenomenal sophomore filly Badgirl Bridgette gets top billing in a $3,500 high-end fillies and mares conditioned pace in race 12. The multiple stakes-winning daughter of Stonebridge Terror out of Whatabadgirl has been nothing short of superb every time she has stepped on the track with a lifetime record of eight wins and a second from 10 lifetime starts. The only time she missed the top three was in a fourth-place effort in her career debut as a two-year-old in an overnight maiden class. Jason Hughes will drive from post five as Badgirl Bridgette looks for her third straight victory.
A recent Phil Pinkney Memorial Stakes winner at Inverness Raceway, Talldarklatte, to be driven by Brodie MacPhee, is her main threat from post three for trainer Tom Weatherbie.
Race 10 is the Energy & Mines Minister’s Conference Pace with Lorne Valley Barb the top choice from post three for trainer/driver Myles Heffernan Jr.
