Sweeping to the front from post 6, Absolut Seelster set the terms and cashed the cheque in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Trot at Georgian Downs on Tuesday, July 9.
Driver Scott Young sent the six-year-old Angus Hall mare to the top while race-favourite Mr Contestant sat fourth to a :27.4 opening quarter. Mr Contestant soon angled first over approaching a :57.3 half and made progress on the leader moving towards three-quarters in 1:26.1. Yet the favourite stalled circling into the stretch, letting Absolut Seelster coast to the finish one-and-a-quarter lengths ahead in a 1:54.4 mile. Bastiano checked in third.
Owned by Thomas and Elizabeth Rankin, Absolut Seelster won her sixth race from 21 starts this season and her 27th from 111 overall, earning $258,366. Benoit Baillargeon conditions the $11.80 winner.
Rideau Carleton invader Flying Isa N rushed wide rounding the final turn to take the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot earlier on the card in his second start on the Georgian oval.
Positioned fifth to a :28.1 first quarter, the 11-year-old Pegasus Spur gelding stayed put through a ;57.1 half and edged from the pylons passing three-quarters in 1:26.1. Mister Of All, applying pressure first over to tempo-setter Emmalulu, backtracked heading to the top of the stretch while Vero Amore Bi and Flying Isa N swept past moving towards the finish. Vero Amore Bi held a slim lead before Flying Isa N stuck a neck in front in the final strides to win in 1:55.4.
Winning his ninth race from 25 starts this season and his 46th from 162 overall, Flying Isa N has earned $591,529. Colin Johnson conditions the $4.90 winner for owner Francois Morin and had Robert Shepherd in the sulky.
