Shady City ($5.90) and driver/owner Larry Staulbaum won Tioga Downs' $12,000 Open Pace on Sunday (July 9) for the third consecutive time. All together, the seven-year-old Metropolitan gelding has won five straight.
Time Out Im Tired (Jim Marohn Jr.) shot out of the gate first, but Fireyourguns (Mike Simons) worked hard to take the lead before the first quarter. Fireyourguns led through all the early fractions of :27.1, :54.2 and 1:21.3.
Time Out Im Tired came out of the pocket to challenge at the top of the stretch then the Kimberly Asher-trained Shady City made a three-wide move in the lane to blast by and win in a lifetime best of 1:50.1. Shady City held off a late charge by runner-up Andreios Kardia (Aaron Byron). Time Out Im Tired held on for third.
Staulbaum ended the program with a driving triple.
Live harness racing resumes at Tioga Downs on Friday, starting at 6:50 p.m.
