Grand River Raceway will host “the most adorable race of the season” on Friday, July 10 with the return of its popular Wiener Dog Races.
Thirty Dachshunds will race in three heats of 10 dogs in between the horse races. The three winners from each heat will move on to the final race consisting of nine dogs, who will dash to the finish line to take home the title of top dog.
This is a free, family-friendly event with several options for food, entertainment and seating.
Dreamland Pet, Grand River Raceway's friendly neighbours, have joined the fun for the first time as Presenting Sponsor. They have
provided each Wiener Dog competitor a fun prize pack. Top dogs (top three winners) will get an extra special treat. Dreamland Pet will be on-site with a booth and are excited to be a part of this fun event.

"It’s amazing how a day of cheering on racing Wiener Dogs can bring people together. We can’t wait to cheer on all of this year’s competitors and see who takes home the championship title!"
“It is a fun-filled day attracting a variety of people to experience the horse track and see the pups dress up and ready to claim first place!” said Alaya Cohen, Hospitality Director, Grand River Raceway.
Cohen emphasized how special Wiener Dog Day is "as it is important for families and friends from all over to enjoy time outdoors, connect with the community and enjoy good food.”
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and post time for the 10-race card of harness racing is 6:20 p.m.

- Entry is free and seating will be available on the tarmac, grandstands and The GrandWay Patio.
- Wiener Dog shirts and hats will be available to purchase, on sale for $15 (including tax). Limited quantity available. Cash, credit and debit accepted.
- There will be two food trucks on-site to enjoy at the East Gate.
- The GrandWay Lounge and GrandWay Patio BBQ will be open for dinner. A BBQ combo will be available: a hot dog ($13) or chicken skewer ($14) combo with kettle chips and a drink.
- VIP Tickets in the Captain’s Quarters are sold out. Contact [email protected] to get on the list to be contacted first when tickets go on sale next year.
