D A Adele was the fastest of three Prospect Series winners as trotting two-year-olds headed to Grand River Raceway for the first round on Wednesday, July 8.
In the first $10,000 filly division, debutante D A Adele made a protracted early sweep to the lead past a :29.4 first quarter with careful handling by Dave Boughton. She pocketed Snowdream Hanover (Jody Jamieson), and those two had a gap to their three peers through the half in 1:00.3 and three-quarters in 1:30. Snowdream Hanover tipped to the outside coming off the last turn and made a late thrust but came up a nose short as D A Adele reached the wire in time for the 1:59.2 victory. Bobbi Bovino (Scott Young) finished third, 7-3/4 lengths back, ahead of the remaining two who had broken stride earlier in the mile.
D A Adele, a $9,000 London Classic Yearling Sale purchase by Paul Lindsey of Fergus, Ont., is trained by Don Lindsey. The daughter of Muscle Mass-Adina paid $4.40 to win.
Stonebridge Belle ($16.50) took the second filly contest in her career debut, getting every call en route to a 2:02.4 victory with Tyler Borth in the bike. Dontmindmymass (Jody Jamieson) missed by a neck in second, with Kinnder Trouble (Guy Gagnon) third. Katie MacNeil trains the winning daughter of Trixton-Stonebridge Encore, who was purchased for $25,000 at the London sale by Borth of Ingersoll, Ont., Ronnie MacLean of Argyle Shore, P.E.I. and Martin Leveillee of Saint-Blaise-sur-Richelieu, Que.
Naked Farmer ($8.80) won the lone $10,000 contest for colts and geldings in 1:59.3. In the pocket for Austin Sorrie to the quarter, the Ron MacDonald trainee was shuffled to third past the half, then rocketed to the front down the backstretch. Sorrie had the My Mvp-Angies Dish gelding wound down through the stretch as he cruised to a two-length victory over Mr Predictable (Brady Galliers). Castellano (Samuel Fillion) was third. Naked Farmer, sold at the Harrisburg sale for $8,451, is owned by Edmund Callahan of Hamburg, N.Y. and Thomas Mays of South Dayton, N.Y.
