The rookie beat the veterans in the Saturday evening (July 8) feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Mick Dundee rallied from off the pace to capture the $1,900 feature event in 1:57.1 for owner/trainer/driver Don MacNeill of Charlottetown. The three-year-old son of Aahm Canadian Now has accumulated a three-race win streak as he likely heads into Atlantic Sires Stakes action next Saturday at the Summerside Raceway as part of Governor’s Plate Week racing. Mach Of Ballykeel was second in the feature event for Marc Campbell while Clic K (Gilles Barrieau) was third.

Elm Grove Kaboom captured the $1,600 back-up pace in 1:55.4 for trainer/driver Earl Smith and owners Larry and Kathy Chappell of Marshfield, P.E.I.

Driver Gilles Barrieau had two wins on the program with Four Corners in 1:58 for trainer Jackie Matheson of Stratford, P.E.I., and aboard his own two-year-old pacing colt, Montys Play in a maiden-breaking score of 1:58.4 for the son of Shadow Play.

Mighty Cowboy scored the fastest win on the program winning his $1,400 class in 1:55.2 for trainer/driver Darren Crowe and owner David MacDonald of Halifax, N.S.

Race eight on the card saw an accident during racing action past the half-mile marker as Jdcyril and driver Adam Merner made a break and fell to the track while all other horses avoided the incident. Both the horse and driver immediately returned to their feet with no injuries.

Live racing will not return to Red Shores Charlottetown until Thursday, July 20 as Governor’s Plate week action is in full swing at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway with programs every evening this week, except Monday, culminating in the 49th running of the Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge.
