A set of $11,000 Preferred 2 tilts were contested Tuesday at Georgian Downs, with bragging rights going to JB Oui Oui and Mopey Corey.
Parlia Hanover set all the speed in the first split, but JB Oui Oui used a wicked kick to get all the marbles.
Riina Rekila was still sitting seventh with JB Oui Oui as the field headed into the final quarter of the contest, and the gelding sprinted home to savour the win.
Parlia Hanover supplied panels of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:27, but she couldn’t last on the lead. JB Oui Oui fired home in :29.3 to win by a half-length margin over Heres The Magic. Parlia Hanover did stick around to grab the show dough.
Marie Ortolan Bar trains the six-year-old son of Daguet Rapide-Jolie Reve for D Farm LLC of Stanford, Kentucky. The gelding won for the fifth time this season in just nine trips to the track. The 15-time winner pushed his lifetime earnings in excess of $164,000 with the win.
Mopey Corey got up in the closing strides in his assignment, and he rewarded his backers at odds of 11-1.
Bob McClure got away fifth and held that position for most of the mile with the Tommy Riley trainee while BWT Taj threw down fractions of :29.1, :59.4 and 1:29.1. Mopey Corey had the freshest set of legs in the lane, however, and his :30-second closing quarter was good enough to earn him the win by three-quarters of a length over BWT Taj in 1:59.3. Race favourite Gotta Secret was third.
Amanda Riley of Roseneath, Ontario owns the eight-year-old son of Southwind Lustre-Armbro Kaitlyn. The gelding won for the seventh time this season and for the 31st time in his career. The $5,500 payday bumped his overall cash stash to $366,506.
