A story about the first Somebeachsomewhere foal to be delivered in the province of Nova Scotia was featured by the Truro Daily News late last week. Sadly, Trot Insider has learned that tragedy struck the Langille horse farm shortly after the piece was published.

Rosanne Langille has told Trot Insider that the foal passed away during the afternoon hours of Saturday, July 5. The foal, who was born on June 18, was found deceased outside in the field. His dam, Paulas Promise – who in the past produced Piece Of The Rock, a $570,000 earner that made starts in the North America Cup and Little Brown Jug – alerted officials at horse farm that something was wrong.

“She was in her stall and was causing a commotion, letting us know that something was wrong,” Langille told Trot Insider, adding that the foal was fine in the morning. “I had just been discussing potential names with Brent MacGrath just a day before. We were thinking something along the lines of ‘Piece Of The Beach,’ in relation to Piece Of The Rock.”

Langille has said that they hope an autopsy will determine the reason why the youngster passed away. MacGrath had told the Truro Daily News that he had been one of the many visitors to come and see the first Nova Scotia Somebeachsomewhere foal.

The Truro Daily News article explains that several New Brunswick-based mares have dropped foals by ‘The Beach,’ but that Paulas Promise was the first to deliver a Somebeachsomewhere foal in Nova Scotia.

"The excitement of having a Somebeachsomewhere foal has certainly added a lot of interest and excitement around here," Rosanne Langille was quoted as saying in the report. "It is exciting as more people than ever have been visiting the farm. It's great, we love having visitors."

"Rosanne approached me last year about a breeding to Beach," MacGrath was quoted as saying, adding that he and Rosanne go back a long way in the harness racing industry.

Langille told Trot Insider that Paulas Promise had been bred back to A Rocknroll Dance and that they are waiting to hear whether she caught or not.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to everyone affected by the passing of the foal.
