Hippodrome 3R’s leading harness racing drivers, Stephane Brosseau and Pascal Berube, both won one of the co-feature races with the favourites on Friday, July 7.

Brosseau started off the twilight card winning the $4,000 first race co-feature pace with the 9-5 race favourite, Goldinthebadlands.

Goldinthebadlands went first-over before the quarter pole and had the lead before the half-mile mark. From there, he held the field at bay and won by one length in 1:56.4. Pocket-sitting Lucky Leonard (Marie-Claude Auger) was second with Super FM (Berube) close from the backfield for third.

The win was the third this season from 20 starts for Goldinthebadlands. The eight-year-old Badlands Hanover gelding is trained by Marc-Andre Simoneau, who co-owns with Desjardins Noreau Stable and Jean Fontaine. He paid $5.90 to win.

In the $4,000 third race co-feature trot,Goaltender (pictured above) delivered as the 8-5 favourite for Berube.

They wound up getting parked out by Bonfire Bash (Francis Picard) from the opening quarter until the three-quarters when Goaltender was able to clear to the lead. Goaltender and Berube then started to pull away from the field in dramatic style, winning by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:59.3. La Bromontoise (Jerome Lombart) finished second over Bonfire Bash.

The win was the second this year from 16 starts for Goaltender, who is trained by Andre Champagne for owner Francois Morin. The six-year-old gelded son of Wheeling N Dealin paid $5.50 to win.

Brosseau, Berube and Picard all scored driving doubles on Friday.
