Jake Stillwell won both $10,000 North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) non-betting trots on Thursday night (July 7) at Yonkers Raceway.
Stillwell copped the first division with Cyclone Maximus in 2:01.1 and then won the second with Soul Train in 1:58.2.
In the first split, Stillwell got away slowly and was fifth at the quarter in :28.3 as Tony Verruso showed the way with Call Me Thefireman. From there, Verruso led his competition by the half in 1:00.1 and kept Joe Lee and Con Air Hall on the rim. They were still one-two by three-quarters in 1:29.4 as Cyclone Maximus moved up along the pylons. And when they headed for paydirt, Stillwell's trotter was the one to catch and no one could as Cyclone Maximus rallied to a length win in 2:01.1. Con Air Hall was second best while Fun Time Charlie garnered the show dough for Scott Keppler.
Joe Ricco, Jr owns the winner who is trained by Nancy Montembeault.
Stillwell used different strategy in the second split, sending Soul Train to the lead from the two-hole and they showed the way by the quarter in :28.1. From there, Stillwell kept Tony Verruso and Trump This parked as they showed the way by the half in :57.4. And as Trump This got closer, Soul Train reached for more and they opened daylight on the field. When they headed for home, Soul Train scooted away to a 1-1/2-length victory in 1:58.2. Trump This was second best and Joe Faraldo got Gemini Eddie for the show dough.
William Vanwie owns the winner who is trained by Candace Brandstatter.
