Sweeping to the front before the half, Hey Livvy scooted clear of her competition to record an open-length victory in the $36,000 Preferred Handicap at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Tuesday (July 7).
Musical Rhythm slid to the front from post 7 while Hey Livvy tucked into the pocket heading to a :27.2. Driver Trevor Henry then circled Hey Livvy to the front, taking the field by the half in :56.2 and widening her advantage as she accelerated to a four-length lead passing three-quarters in 1:24.
Into the stretch Hey Livvy opened seven-and-a-half lengths as P L Jill took over second from Musical Rhythm giving chase in third. P L Jill only cut slightly into Hey Livvy’s margin heading to the wire, finishing six-and-a-half lengths behind the winner in a 1:51.1 mile. Marion Marauder, sent the 8-5 favourite, took third.
A five-year-old mare by Donato Hanover, Hey Livvy won her fourth race from nine starts this season and her 16th from 48 overall, earning $217,563. Jeff Gillis trains the $7.10 winner for owners Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc., Ellen Ott and Trevor Henry.
