Quebecoise Series action continued on Sunday afternoon at Hippodrome 3R with Duc Dorleans earning a spot in the track record books courtesy of his dazzling 1:55.3 winning effort.
Duc Dorleans established a new track record for three-year-old male pacers, shaving two-fifths of a second off the former standard co-held by Big Bam Ray and Eldadio.
Stephane Brosseau drove the homebred Shanghai Phil gelding for trainer Jacques Dupont and owners Les Ecuries Dorleans Inc. of Repentigny, Que. and Gestion C. Levesque 2005inc of Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Que.
Race favourite Duc Dorleans left from post three in his $7,000 series division and carved out fractions of :28.3, :57.3 and 1:27 before drawing away from the rest of the field with a :28.3 final quarter to win by seven and three-quarter lengths. Lucky Nadotremblay (Yves Filion) and Royal Beauty A L (Sylvain Lacaille) rounded out the top three finishers.
The win was Duc Dorleans' first in six starts this year and eighth lifetime, pushing his earnings to $107,570.
The other pacing colt division went to repeat winner The Real One ($6.60), who matched the old track record of 1:56 in rein to Richard Simard for Bertrand Ayotte and owner Helene Fillion of Mirabel, Que. The Mach Three gelding won a front end battle with favourite McKinney and Brosseau, scoring by one and a half lengths. He is now six-for-nine this year.
Trainer/driver Marcel Barreau and Quebec owner/breeder Hudson Standardbred Stable Inc. teamed up to win three series divisions with trotting colt Mr Vs Victory ($4.60) in 1:59 and pacing fillies Shanghai Mimi ($2.70) in 1:56.3 and Racey Miss ($2.60) in 1:57.3.
Trotting filly Canbec Kangourou ($3.10) also doubled up in the series with a 2:03.2 score for driver Jocelyn Gendron and trainer Daniel Martin, who co-owns with Lapharmaciedekedgwick Inc. of Kedgwick, N.B.
