Trust The Artist Returns A Winner

Trust The Artist returned to the track after a three month layoff in top form as he tackled a field of Open pacers on Saturday afternoon at Alberta Downs.

With trainer Kelly Hoerdt in the sulky, Trust The Artist settled behind early leaver Timberline Court and trainer-driver Gerry Hudon off the gate in the $8,500 feature pace and played follow-the-leader through fractions of :28, :56.2 and 1:24.3. Heading into the final turn, Trust The Artist was flushed out of the pocket and came charging home to prevail over the popular pacesetter by half a length in 1:53 flat. Last week's Open winner Neal Diamonique and Jim Marino rounded out the top three finishers.

The victory was Trust The Artist's first in three seasonal starts and 43rd lifetime, pushing his bankroll to $518,259. Hoerdt also co-owns the eight-year-old Real Artist gelding with fellow Beaumont, Alta. residents Blair Corbeil and Mike McAllister.

The 2-1 third choice paid $6.30 to win.
