Muscles Yankee Fillies Sweep NJSS

The second leg of the New Jersey Sires Stakes for two-year-old trotting fillies went postward at the Meadowlands Racetrack on Thursday evening, with two divisions carrying purses of $22,500 on tap

Vanity Treasure was a popular winner in the first split. Trainer/driver Chris Ryder came first-over at the half with the Muscles Yankee-Armbro Vanity miss, and she cleared shortly thereafter en route to pulling away to a two-length score in 1:58.3. Shes All In, who led to the half, was second best and The Sorceress rounded out the top three finishers.

Ryder of Allentown, NJ shares ownership on the trotting lass with Max and Tamra Wernick of New City, NY. The filly, who was a $35,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale, won for the second time in three lifetime starts. She has stashed away $22,000 to date.

Southbeachprincess, who was making just her second lifetime start, pulled off a 10-1 upset in the second division for the team of driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Larry Remmen. Gingras got away fourth with the daughter of Muscles Yankee-Timberlassie before brushing to the top in the backstretch. She hit the half in 1:01 and sped up the tempo to the three-quarter pole in 1:30.3 before scooting home in :28.4 to win by 2-3/4 lengths over race favourite Aunt Mel in 1:59.2. Exercise To Go closed well to finish third.

Jon Erdner of Canonsburg, PA owns the filly who was a $35,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale. She’s a full-sister to a pair of accomplished campaigners in One Tough Lass (1:52.4 - $326,397) and Workout Doll (1:55.2 - $194,515).
