New Legacy will attempt to continue his Open Trot dominance in the Thursday evening feature event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Capital oval has a 12-dash presentation on Thursday with the top showdown of the night lining up in race 10 with the $3,100 Open Trot class. New Legacy has won his last four Open Trot assignments from the Colin Johnson barn with Adam Merner sticking by the son of Father Patrick in the driver’s seat. Debbie Element shares ownership of the post three starter with Matt and David Burke and Don MacNeill Jr. The five-year-old has 18-lifetime victories to his credit with eight of them coming this year between P.E.I. and New York.

Sailor Blue was the last one to defeat that Open Trot champ on May 25 and has post two to work from this week with Ken Murphy driving for trainer Jeff Holmes. The Armbro Barrister mare made her first start in 28 days in last week’s Open Trot on June 29 and will be back in shape for this Thursday’s contest. That June 29 race saw New Legacy absent with Mile Hill Willie grabbing the winning spot in 1:58 with Gilles Barrieau doing the stick handling from the Paul Morrison stable. That Armbro Barrister stallion now sits at 29 lifetime wins and will set his sights on win number 30 from post five in the featured dash.

Also in the Open Trot field are Hallofaride (Marc Campbell), Jessiejesorjessica (David Dowling), Majian Tango (Jim Ripley) and Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault).

The "Post Time Picks" will side with New Legacy to win: “New Legacy has been excellent since arriving on the Island and has reeled off four wins in a row. Slides into post three and Merner knows him best so be prepared for a Red Shores high five.”

Race 6 will go in memory of Paul McKinnon, Director Emeritus of the United States Trotting Association, presented by the Sandstone Senior Club. The $2,300 trot class has Oceanview Chip as the top choice from post two with Merner driving for trainer and co-owner Bill Roloson and co-owner Joey Aylward. The Ontario-sired Lookslikeachpndale three-year-old is out of King Kong Kate, who previously produced Atlantic Sires Stakes champions Oceanview Kate and Seanchai.

First race post time is 6 p.m.
