Domi Racer won the featured trotting event on Thursday night at Scioto Downs, covering the mile in 1:57.4 for driver Jeremy Smith while hitting the wire a head in front of favoured Lookslikefire.
When the Mike Woebkenberg starting gate’s wings folded, longshots DJ John Boy (21-1) and Lima Lucky (36-1) were fastest away while Smith slipped Domi Racer in the third position. DJ John Boy had control of the race as the quarter was passed in :28 with Kyle Bolon and Lima Lucky pressing on the outside.
J.D. Wengerd wouldn’t let Lima Lucky get past DJ John Boy in the second quarter and they reached the half in :57 with Lima Lucky still parked and pressing.
Lima Lucky faded during the third quarter as Lookslikefire grabbed the lead, but he was challenged by Domi Racer in the drive to the wire. The two trotters dueled through the stretch and Domi Racer thrust his head in front to win.
Lookslikefire, who started from post 10 in the second tier, was second for driver Kurt Sugg while Upfront Jess was third for driver Chris Page.
It was the second win in six starts this season for the six-year-old son of Windswept Balance. He sent his career earnings past $45,000 for owner-trainer Kenny Edwards. He paid $14.80 to win.
