On Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack, the same track where he scored the biggest win of his career in the 2011 Pepsi North America Cup, first crop sire Up The Credit scored with his first two-year-old winner in Jack Darling's Heavymetal Hanover.
Facing seven other freshmen in a $14,000 conditioned event for two-year-old colt pacers, Mike Saftic took the Hanover Shoe Farm-bred son of Her Music Rocks (Rocknroll Hanover) right to the front from the word go. After three-quarters in 1:27.1, the pair kicked home in :27 flat for a three-quarters of a length score in 1:54.1, over pocket-sitter The Catamount Kid (Well Said) and the hard-closing Stonebridge Beach (Mach Three). The time of the mile is a Canadian season's mark for two-year-old pacing colts.
Owned and trained by Jack Darling of Cambridge, Ont., Heavymetal Hanover was a $21,000 yearling purchase from the 2014 Harrisburg Sale.
Up The Credit stood the 2015 season at Casimir Farms in Hagar, Ont.
