Trainer/driver Keith Clark showed patience with Clintons Escape in the early stages of Monday’s $8,800 Open Pace, and that approach paid off handsomely
for the gelding.
Clintons Escape got away fourth in the five-horse affair while Neal Diamonique sped through fractions of :27.2, :57 and 1:25.1. Clintons Escape started a first-over rally in the third quarter, and by the time the top of the stretch rolled around Neal Diamonique enjoyed a pair of lengths on his first-over challenger. A :27.1 final panel by Clintons Escape, however, was more than enough to earn him the one-length decision over All Canadian Mjjz in 1:53.2. Neal Diamonique faded late and wound up finishing third.
It was the first win of the season in four tries for the four-year-old son of Clintons Cigar-Emotionaliscape, who is owned by Clark, Allan Neurauter and the Estate Of George D Young. The 14-time winner is quickly closing in on $200,000 in lifetime earnings.
Clark finished the afternoon program with three training victories and a total of four driving victories.
