One year ago, Beau Jangles prevailed in a track record-setting performance in the 2025 Battle of Waterloo at Grand River Raceway, a 1:51 victory in his third career that showed flashes of the brilliance he'd continue to display throughout his award-winning rookie season.
Now, the son of Cattlewash-Mrs Major Hill returns to the Elora five-eighths mile oval on Monday, Aug. 3 looking to take back the title of divisional kingpin.
On Monday, Beau Jangles faces seven rivals in the $150,000 third leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings, the main event on the Industry Day undercard at Grand River Raceway that also features the $165,000 Battle of the Belles and $205,000 Battle of Waterloo. First race post time on Monday is slated for 12:30 p.m. with the three aforementioned dashes lining up in races 10, 11 and 12, respectively.
Five weeks ago, Beau Jangles finished fifth in his division's second OSS leg of the season. That race was won by Borderline Mobby, who bested Redland Rocket Man by a head in a 1:48.2 effort.
Last Saturday (July 25) at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Borderline Mobby and Redland Rocket Man were both bested by Beau Jangles' stablemate, Odds On Bullfrog in an overnight race with Travis Henry guiding the son of Bulldog Hanover to his third straight sub-1:50 victory — this one a wire-to-wire 1:49.2 performance.
Monday's OSS event features eight pacers, six of whom were active in the last leg on June 27. Newcomers include Odds On Bullfrog (PP3, Travis Henry, 6-1) and outsider Just Givener (PP2, Trevor Henry, 20-1). Oddsmakers sided with the returning Beau Jangles (PP6, Bob McClure, 4-5), sufficiently impressed with his 1:50 qualifier this past Friday at Mohawk after taking some time to recover from a lung infection. The Dr. Ian Moore trainee sports a record of 15-0-2 from 18 career starts for Graham Grace Stables LLC of Clifton, Va., Kiwi Stables LLC of La Plata, Md. and Bolton Stables, Clermont, Fl.
Beau Jangles' main threats on Monday line up to his inside, with Borderline Mobby (PP1, James MacDonald, 9-2) and No Waitlist (PP4, Doug McNair, 9-2) completing the top three selections on the morning line.
In the $165,000 Battle of the Belles, Bob McClure had his pick of the elimination winners after sweeping the elims this past Monday (July 27) at Grand River. He picked off the undefeated Money Carlo for the faster elim winner, Jersey Bulldog.
Jersey Bulldog drew post two in the Battle of the Belles for McClure, owner-trainer John Pentland, and co-owners Sherri Sumner of Dorchester, Jack Darling Stables Ltd. of Cambridge and Alan Alber of Thornhill, Ont. The daughter of Bulldog Hanover-Gallie Beach sports a record of 1:51.4f with a 2-1-0 summary from four lifetime starts and $44,500 in earnings. She's the 2-1 second choice.
Money Carlo (PP4, James MacDonald, 6-5) gets the nod on the morning line coming into Monday's test perfect in three appearances. The daughter of Bulldog Hanover-Shes Some Treasure boasts a 1:51.1 speed badge and $105,000 in earnings for her Hall of Fame connections — trainer Moore and owner Brad Grant of Milton, Ont.
With no eliminations required, the $205,000 Battle of Waterloo was drawn during the live card on Monday at Grand River. Two of the rookies head postward with perfect three-for-three records thus far, with Gogo Gadget (PP1, Jonathan Drury, 8-5) and C Script (PP4, Doug McNair, 9-5) aiming for fourth straight victories on Monday afternoon.
Gogo Gadget sports a mark of 1:52 for trainer Kyle Bossence and owner Tamara Vandewiel of Arthur, Ont. The son of Betting Line-Jk Getupngo is the richest ($110,000) and fastest of the freshmen entered.
C Script steps up from OSS Grassroots competition, winning most recently on July 20 at Mohawk for trainer-owner Gregg McNair of Guelph and co-owners McKinlay & Fielding of Gravenhurst, M&S Racing Stable Inc. of Rockwood and Dr. Chris Robson of Grand Bend, Ont.
Doug is the winningest driver in Battle of Waterloo history with six victories, while Gregg's five training wins trails Carl Jamieson by one.

Industry Day’s headline events include the $205,000 Battle of Waterloo, presented by Winbak Farm, and its companion race, the $165,000 Battle of the Belles—both showcasing Ontario-sired two-year-old pacers. The Battle of Waterloo remains GRR’s signature race, and an early season highlight on the Ontario Sires Stakes calendar. This year’s undercard will also deliver top-tier action, featuring Ontario’s elite three-year-old pacing colts in a Gold division of the Ontario Sires Stakes.
Horseplayers can look forward to an enhanced wagering menu for this upcoming Industry Day. Highlights will be a pair of Pick 5's, both featuring a $10,000 guaranteed pools, The early Pick 5 will start in Race 1 and offers a $10,000 guaranteed pool with the late being comprised of Races 8 through 12. Horseplayers will also have a pair of Pick 4 opportunities – the early Pick 4 will begin in Race 2 with a guaranteed pool of $5,000 and the late Pick 4 starts in Race 9 with a guaranteed pool of $7,500. All of the feature wagers are offered at a low 15 per cent takeout.
Beyond the featured harness racing, Grand River Raceway offers a fun-filled NEIGHbourhood Kid’s Area sponsored by Central Ontario Standardbred Association with guest activities supplied by Ontario Racing and free activities for families all afternoon. Grand River Raceway is also excited to be offering a kid’s zone which is located at the East Gate is packed with entertainment and hands-on fun for kids of all ages, including a petting zoo, face painting, glitter tattoos, a play area by Hometown Hideout, educational horse racing activities and resouces from Equine Guelph.
The afternoon also includes a variety of food options, including a BBQ on The GrandWay Patio with a special feature – hamburger or footlong hot dog served with kettle chips and a choice of drink for $13; a BBQ on the main tarmac; food trucks at the East Gate, Carnival Treats, as well as the standard GrandWay Lounge menu.
A limited number of seats remain in the Captain's Quarters, with sales closing on Sunday, Aug. 2 at 5 p.m. Tickets provide reserved seating all afternoon, a delicious hot buffet lunch, race program, private TV, and more.
There are several special guests joining the fun on Monday. Emma Christoforou and The Painted Pony will be leading the post parades, the Bill Galvin Racing Alliance brings its virtual reality driving experience (hosted in The GrandWay Lobby), with Equine Guelph, the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, and Ontario Equine Education & Employment Program present with booths on site.
Grand River also plays host to the fourth leg of the Bet Ontario Handicapping Contest, located under the large tent for those interested in testing their skills.
Battle of Waterloo sponsor Winbak Farm will also be on site with a draw for a fabulous prize package stationed on The GrandWay Events Centre Patio.
Important notices about Industry Day:
- No driving or tailgating on the Back Berm again this year.
- Parking and alcohol is not permitted on the grassy area near the East Gate.
- Grand River wants to remind guests that there is no smoking on all GRR and GrandWay premises, smoking is only permitted in the parking lot.
- No alcohol in the space between Grand River tarmac and The GrandWay patio. Also, no alcohol is to be brought into the parking lot area.
