A Dozen Straight Wins For Up Helly AA; New Trot Records

Under the command of driver Kenny MacDonald, Up Helly AA made short work of his competition for his 12th straight victory in P.E.I. Colt Stakes action Sunday afternoon (July 31) at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway. 

In his $9,940 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old trot division on an all-stakes Sunday program, the Clare MacDonald-trained son of Armbro Barrister was superb in 1:59.4 for his 12th straight win for owner Riley Farms of Summerside, P.E.I. Up Helly AA took a new lifetime mark, winning by 5-1/2 lengths over Gettin Allfiredup and Cadillac.

 

 

The $9,940 three-year-old trot filly P.E.I. Colt Stakes division had Defriended establish a new track record for her age group in 1:59.3 with Myles Heffernan Sr. driving the daughter of Amigo Hall for trainer Myles Heffernan Jr. and owner Jackie Heffernan of Glace Bay, N.S. 

 

 

Track records were the name of the game Sunday for trotters with Camco Erin winning her $8,860 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old trot filly class in a new standard of 2:02.4 with Mike McGuigan training and driving the My MVP filly for Blue Diamond Racing of Emyvale, P.E.I. 

 

 

Irish Ray remains undefeated in his career as he won the P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old trot race in 2:03.4 with Marc Campbell training and driving for Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston, P.E.I. 

 

 

In two-year-old pacing action, Tobins Profit has been unheeded in his young career as the son of Stonebridge Terror won his $12,400 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division for pacing colts in 1:58 with Jason Hughes picking up the lines of the Danny Romo trainee for owners Kevin Dorey, Robert Sumarah and Frank Brundle. 

 

 

Malignity continues to rack up the wins as he captured the other Gold split in 1:58.1 for trainer/driver Paul Langille and owners Debbie Francis and Rosanne Langille. 

The $6,200 two-year-old pacing colt P.E.I. Colt Stakes grassroots divisions were won by Impeccable Shadow (1:58.4) in line to Adam Merner and Sue Warrior (2:02.1) for driver Redmond Doucet Jr. 

Speakingofshadow won the fastest $11,950 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old pacing filly Gold division with a 1:58.3 pocket ride for trainer/driver McGuigan and owners Josh and Mark MacDonald. 

The other $11,950 filly Gold race was won by Elm Grove Redwine (1:58.4) with Gilles Barrieau subbing in as the driver for trainer David Dowling and owners Alex Quinn, Carl Peterson and Brittany Watts. 

The $5,975 P.E.I. Colt Stakes grassroots divisions saw wins by the debuting Rock N Roll Cays (1:59) in line to Ken Murphy, Shadow Of A Lady (2:01.2) with Paul Langille and Our Girl Annie (2:01.3) with Campbell in the seat. 

Sailor Blue was the boss in the $4,300 Island Oceans Trot Mares Series Gold division, presented by JD Marine & Diving Inc.,  winning in 1:59.2 for driver Murphy, trainer Jeff Holmes and owners Cindy and Ambyr MacDonald and Yossi Martonovich. 

Live racing continues Thursday (Aug. 4) and Saturday (Aug. 6) at 6:30 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown and Sunday afternoon (Aug. 7) at Red Shores Summerside at 1 p.m.
