Unabating Repeats At Rideau

Unabating staged another last-to-first rally in the Winners Over Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway to earn his second straight victory on Sunday night (July 31).

In similar fashion to last week's winning effort from his assigned outside post, Unabating trailed early on in the $6,500 Sunday co-feature before blasting by. Jetcrest and Raising Richard traded turns on the front end through opening panels of :29.1 and :59 before driver Guy Gagnon made a wide-sweeping move with the 1-2 favourite to take the lead by the 1:28.1 third quarter mark. Unabating opened up four lengths on top turning for home and then cruised to the wire in 1:57.4. The early leaders rounded out the top three finish order.

Unabating paid $3.10 to win. The eight-year-old Broadway Hall gelding has now won five of his last six races and half of his 16 total starts this year for trainer Gerard Demers and owner Catheline Pelletier of Mirabel, Que.

Gary McDonald's 10-year-old gelding Mr Massimo ($4.70) and driver Brett MacDonald won the matching pacing division, working to the lead at three-eighths and fending off the favoured Viper Select as Gagnon attempted another power move with that pacer. However, Mr Massimo denied Viper Select the repeat win and prevailed by two lengths in 1:52.2, with Beach Runner A M three lengths back in third.
