The second day of the race meet at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds saw freshman pacers face each other and the weather, as storms played havoc with the race card.
In the lone division of the Quaker Stake, Fool Bewitch U remained undefeated in her career, now two-for-two, as the Western Ideal filly paced home in 2:06.2. Wayne Long drove for lessee and trainer Ron Lineweaver.
Four divisions of the PA Sire Stake for filly pacers were up next, and Roger Hammer captured the first three divisions with horses from his own barn. Lifesarealbeach (Somebeachsomewhere) was up first, winning in 2:02.3. Another daughter of Somebeachsomewhere, Cebu Hanover, was next to the winner’s circle, pacing in 2:03. Finally, the Quik Pulse Mindale filly Quik Response was a winner in 2:02.3. Hammer owns all three fillies.
DVC Jaded Attitude, in rein to owner and trainer Dave Brickell, ended Hammer's streak by winning the final filly pacing division in 2:02.2. It was her third straight win and her fifth in eight starts. DVC Jaded Attitude is a daughter of Magical Mike.
Four divisions of the PASS for colt pacers ended the day, and Hammer won his fourth race of the day with yet another of his homebreds, Falcons Breeze. The Nuclear Breeze colt stopped the watch in 2:04.4.
The second group was led across the wire by Mein Schatz (Real Desire), a come from behind winner for trainer/driver Aaron Johnston in 2:03.3. Jim Biego owns the colt, now a two-time winner on the season.
Coffee Vendor gave Brickell his second winning drive of the day, as the Western Terror gelding got up in the final stride for a narrow win over Lauxmont Party and Johnston. Coffee Vendor is trained and owned by J.R. Brewer, in partnership with his father, Jim. The winning time was 2:07 on a track that had taken plenty of rain by that point in the day.
In the finale, Captain Kubota went to the lead early and backed down the fractions, going on to win in 2:10 for driver Brady Brown. Rich Gillock and Mike Fleming own the Mcardle gelding, while Mike Gillock trains.
Freshman trotters will face the starter on Wednesday at Clearfield. Post time is 12 p.m.
