According to a report by The Buffalo News, standardbred driver Hugh Stevens, accused of narcotics trafficking after a 2004 arrest, will be receiving a new trial.
The trial of the 63-year-old resident of Derby, New York will begin conducting jury selection starting September 8. A pair of court-appointed attorneys will be representing Stevens because of the complexity of the case and because Angelo Musitano, Stevens’ main court-appointed attorney, has had health problems.
Stevens was arrested in 2004 after a lengthy investigation by the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Federal agents accused him of using horse trailers to transport the ingredients for methamphetamine for a drug ring with connections to Canada and Mexico.
