The odds on the Northside Downs toteboard didn't predict an open length score for last week's Winners Over victor in this week's tilt, and maybe that was extra motivation for Mando Fun and Ryan Campbell to send a message to the naysayers.
A post five starting spot might have shied some of the betting public away from making Mando Fun the favourite, instead sending him off as the 2-1 second choice while rail starter Southwind Ricardo was granted favoured status. Campbell wanted the front end and got it, opening up a quick two lengths in a :27.4 opening quarter. Campbell kept the middle fractions sensible at :57.2 and 1:27 with more than three lengths of advantage over second place Gentry Seelster (Larry Snow). That three-length cushion widened to six at the wire, with the mile timed in a brisk 1:56.2. Gentry Seelster stayed for second with Runaway Mystery (Harold Leblanc) completing the triactor.
Trainer Ronald Seymour co-owns Mando Fun (Badlands Hanover - Millenium Ball) with Aubrey Cameron of Glace Bay, N.S. The fourth win of the season for the nine-year-old gelding gives him 35 wins from 154 career starts and earnings of $91,056 lifetime.
