You See L A turned in an authoritative first-over victory in Thursday night’s $57,200 Whenuwishuponastar Pacing Series Final for two-year-old fillies
at Mohawk Racetrack.
Mike Saftic picked up the catch-driver aboard the daughter of The Panderosa-Los Angeles who remained perfect in two career starts with the victory for co-owner and trainer Bob McIntosh.
In Thursday’s contest, You See L A got away last in the field of eight and was spotted 14 lengths off the pacesetting Cams Cupid through an opening quarter of :27.3. The lead would change hands three more times before the half with You See L A’s stablemate, Give The Gift, striking the front just before the second panel of :56.1.
You See L A was unable to fish out cover in the third quarter so Saftic sent her after the leader and she had moved up to second and less than two lengths from the top through the third panel in 1:25.1.
Once the field straightened up for the stretch drive, You See L A found another gear and easily drew off for a 2-1/2 length tally over Cool Jazz who shook loose late to be second with Major Girl rounding out the top three in the 1:53.4 mile. The winner returned just $2.70 as part of a three-horse entry.
“It worked out good (the outside post),” said Saftic. “With an outside post, when you don’t leave you just hope for some honest fractions up front and we got plenty of those. The Bob McIntosh fillies are pretty good and she’s one of them. I guess you could leave somewhere down the road and show her a little gate speed, but right now she’s right where you want her.”
You See L A improved her career bankroll to just over $38,000 for McIntosh along with the CSX Stables of Ohio and Al McIntosh Holdings Inc. of Ontario. You See L A is eligible to WEG’s signature race for two-year-old filly pacers, the $700,000 (Est.) Shes A Great Lady, which goes on September 5.
