Major Hill lived up to his billing as the bettor’s choice in the $10,500 Preferred Handicap at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (July 3).

Driven by Pascal Berube, Major Hill overcame a tough trip to win the feature race on the card at Rideau. The nine-year-old gelding got away fifth off the car, maintaining position through a :27.2 first quarter. He made his move seconds later, pulling first up against the rest of the pack. His first-up trip lasted through fractions of :55.3 and 1:24 before tipping out three-wide to notch the victory by a neck in 1:52.1 over The Light Speed (Guy Gagnon). Lovemyrockinbird (Jimmy Gagnon) followed up in third.

Major Hill, by Art Major and out of the Western Hanover mare Bunnys Legacy, secured win number 35, totaling $582,391 in earnings. He is trained by Yves Tessier for owner Francois Morin.

Another notable accomplishment on the Rideau card came from Delicate Sound, whose triumph makes six in a row for trainer Marc-Andre Simoneau and owner Aurel Harvey Et Fils Inc. The three-year-old gelding is by State Treasurer and out of the American Ideal mare Eagle Kelly. The 1:54.3 mile is the sixth win in eight lifetime starts for Delicate Sound, totaling $17,002 in earnings.
