After having sat off the speed, Howmacfiesty pounced on her rivals in the stretch to grab victory in the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace at Georgian Downs on Tuesday, July 3.
Pretty Hot posted the first quarter in :27.3 leading pocket-sitter Stellenbosch two lengths moving into the stretch first time. Howmacfiesty, positioned fourth, stayed at the rail while Pretty Hot raced to the half in :57.1.
From third, Style Snapshot tipped first over moving to the backstretch, carrying Howmacfiesty second over. The first-over challenger came a neck away from the lead passing three-quarters in 1:25 but stalled rounding the final turn. Howmacfiesty edged wide of her cover and slid past Pretty Hot nearing the wire to win by a half length in 1:53. Outlaw Imahotvixen, riding the rail, rallied for third.
Owned and trained by Jack Harris, Howmacfiesty won for the seventh time in 19 goes this season and for the 23rd in 96 overall, earning $155,566. J Harris drove the $7.80 winner.
Georgian hosted two $6,500 divisions of the Sharpes Feed Series second leg for four-year-old and younger filly and mare trotters. Odds-on favourite Superlative strolled to the lead in the stretch to win in 1:58.2.
The daughter of Holiday Road sat off Memberme and Shotgun Sally contesting for the lead. Memberme posted a :29.2 opening quarter followed by Shotgun Sally posting a :58.3 half. Muscle Lass pulled first over and challenged by three-quarters in 1:28 while Superlative reeled in rivals, sticking three-quarter lengths ahead of Muscle Lass at the wire while Memberme took third.
Superlative races for owners Brilo Farms, trainer Robert Walker Jr. and A J Cachia Sales Limited. Steve Byron sat behind the $2.60 winner who was victorious for the second time in three starts, earning $6,500.
Miss Jubilee Hill brushed to the lead after the quarter and cruised to a three-and-one-half length victory in the second division. Following a :28.3 opening quarter, the filly by Muscle Hill took control before the half, passing splits of :58.3 and 1:26.4 in progress to a 1:55.2 victory over Arabellas Cadet racing first over to take second while Cocoa On Top finished 15 lengths back in third.
Scott Young drove the $6.90 winner. Miss Jubilee Hill races for owner-trainer Mark Steacy and co-owner Clarke Steacy. She won for the second time in 11 starts, earning $28,210.
