Hanover Raceway's Survivor handicapping contest kicked off on Saturday night (July 2) while Brad Forward continued to lead his fellow drivers for wins this season.
Forward won three of the 10 races on the night, giving him 13 wins on the five-week-old season -- seven more than his closest competitor Clarke Stacey.
The 45-year-old Newfoundland native started off his hat trick in race three with Docs Baby in 2:03.3. The three-year-old filly trotter is owned by Dr. John Mckinley of Oldcastle, Ont. Forward also won race seven with Buttercup Baby in 1:59.1 for owner ICR Racing of Pefferlaw, Ont., and completed the hat-trick in race eight with Son Of A Eagle in 1:59.1 for owner/trainer David Burgess of Cambridge, Ont.
A total of 106 people took part in leg one of the Survivor contest. Fans had to pick a horse in four different races and if all four of their horses finished in the money, they got a ballot to compete in the Survivor finale on August 6. Country 93 and HDTV in Walkerton and Hanover are sponsoring the contest with the top prize being a 50 inch High Definition TV.
Of the 106 contestants, 40 were perfect on their selections, however, everyone including those who qualified can compete again next week in leg two for another ballot in the finale.
Next Saturday is 'Ladies Night at the Races.' Hanover Raceway has partnered with The Flower Shoppe and Greenhouses, My Scissors and I, and Molson to provide some great prizes for ladies in attendance. Post time on Saturday, July 9 is 7:15 p.m.
