Borth Pads Lead At Dresden

Tyler Borth stole the on-track show on Hall Of Fame Day at Dresden Raceway as the O'Brien Award winner increased his lead in the drivers' standings.

Borth scored his first win in the second race with News Stand in 2:02.1. The three-year-old Quality Western colt is owned by Michael Lucier of Port Lambton and trained by Mike Carther. The Ingersoll, Ont.-based driver picked up his driving double in the third race with the two-year-old Astronomical filly, My Greek Princess in 2:03.2. Jim Napper and Steve Girard of Bothwell are the owners of My Greek Princess while Cathy Gaudreau is the conditioner.

Magnum Seelster and Borth crossed the wire first in the fifth race for his third win of the day in 1:59. The 11-year-old Intrepid Seelster gelding won his third straight at Dresden Raceway and is owned and trained by Doug Currie of Brigden. The 24-year-old teamster cashed in his fourth win of the day in the sixth race with Kelly Rae. The win was the third win in a row at Dresden for the nine-year-old Thatll Be Me mare who is owned by trainer John Lester and Sandra Lester of Lambton Shores.

Borth now has 19 wins on the season at Dresden Raceway, far ahead of Andy Moore in second with nine wins while Brad Forward has moved into third spot with seven wins after picking up a driving double today.

Dresden Raceway legend Levi “Jiggs” McFadden was honoured after the sixth race for his contribution to the sport of harness racing in the area. McFadden raced until his mid-70’s and was dominant in Ontario, Michigan and New York State including back-to back-wins of the Canadian Pacing Derby. He died in 1993.
McFadden’s widow Gladys thanked the crowd for their support and said that he would be honoured by the gesture of being put into the Dresden Raceway Hall of Fame.

Today`s handle was $19,112 for a two-day total of $48,557 for 18 races over the Canada Day weekend. Dresden Derby Day and BIA Day is set for this coming Sunday, July 10 as fans are invited to wear hats similar to Kentucky Derby Saturday. First race post time is 1:30 p.m.
