Junebugs Baby went wire-to-wire in a track record performance to win the $5,000 Inverness Invitational Pace on Friday evening (July 29) at Inverness Raceway.
His 1:55.3 victory lowered the divisional track record for aged pacing stallions held by Mitchs Ceilidh by two-fifths of a second.
With Miles Heffernan catch-driving, Junebugs Baby took the lead from post four in Friday's featured seventh race finale and, after a :30.1 first quarter, he rebuffed a challenge from All Turain past the :58.3 half-mile mark. With All Turain dropping in behind, Junebugs Baby opened up three lengths on top to three-quarters in 1:26.3 and remained strong through the stretch to stop the clock in the record time of 1:55.3. All Turain and Ryan Campbell followed in second with His Boy Elroy and Bernard McCallum checking in third in the five-horse field.
Junebugs Baby is now six-for-eight this year and has won 45 races lifetime from 88 starts while banking $94,674. Trainer Fraser Turnbull and John Turnbull Jr. share ownership of the homebred seven-year-old son of Western Paradise out of the On The Road Again mare Carols Junebug.
