Rose Run Oriana ($2.70) made her Grand River Raceway debut a winning one with a wire-to-wire effort in the $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot co-featured on Wednesday night's harness racing card in Elora, Ont.

Leaving from post two in rein to Travis Henry, the five-year-old Trainforthefuture mare led the field of nine through fractions of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:27 before holding off the upset-minded Wine Photo, who closed along the pylons down the stretch. Rose Run Oriana prevailed over Wine Photo by a quarter-length in 1:57 flat. Spartan Victory finished two lengths behind in third off the pocket trip.

Rose Run Oriana earned her second win of the season from 11 starts competing mostly on the WEG circuit. Thomas Riley trains the bay mare for owners Rolling Hills Racing Stables of Uxbridge, Ont. and Dimithri Pieris of Mississauga, Ont.

The co-featured Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace was won by Insincerity ($10.30), who rallied wide off cover and sprinted home in :28.3 for owner and trainer William Hamm of West Lorne, Ont. Driven by Robert Shepherd, the six-year-old Rambaran mare won by five and a quarter lengths in 1:56.1 over Doo Wee Rusty and Keystone Christa. Seventh-place finisher Just One More was the race leader through :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27.1 before being overtaken in the final turn.
