On the holiday Monday, August 1 in Woodstock, New Brunswick, a tradition in the provincial harness racing industry will take place.
Horse Racing New Brunswick, in partnership with the Woodstock Driving Club and its generous sponsors, will present a six-dash card of live harness racing at the picturesque Connell Park (Woodstock Raceway). First-race post time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The $1,350 featured event (Race 6) will showcase the best New Brunswick-owned pacing mare in the Maritimes, as Ramblinglily will make the trip from Moncton to take on four other rivals.
Saying that the five-year-old mare is having a great season would be a huge understatement. Owned by the tandem of Norman Leger and Allan Jones, Ramblinglily has recorded six wins from nine starts this season. She lowered her lifetime mark to 1:54.4 over Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway on P.E.I. earlier this year.
In her career, raced exclusively in Atlantic Canada, she has recorded 42 victories. She is closing in on $140,000 in lifetime earnings. She will take on Double D Deluxe (who will be driven by Don Dickison), Coral Snake (Luke Armstrong), City Of The Year (Dr. Mitchell Downey) and Momara (Andrew Bustard).
The fan-friendly half-mile track will host another card on Friday, August 5. The program will spotlight the Kelti Burnett Memorial Pace, for invitational pacers, which is sponsored by Corey Ford in Woodstock and the McCain family.
Horse Racing New Brunswick has also announced that its president, Kathy McLean Harvey, would like to extend gracious thanks to horsemen, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who has contributed towards a successful 2016 racing season in Woodstock.
