Jacks To Open Tops Mixed Sale

Selling for $122,000, Hambletonian contender Jacks To Open topped the Meadowlands Summer Mixed Sale on Sunday afternoon in the Meadowlands race paddock.

Three-year-old Conway Hall gelding Jacks To Open, Hip 73, was purchased by Nicholas Surick of Freehold, New Jersey. He's been first or second in his last five New York-bred races to help boost his career bankroll to $118,452. Jacks To Open has a career record of 5-5-1 in 22 starts and took his 1:55.1 lifetime mark last year at The Red Mile.

Donau, Hip 234, garnered a $70,000 bid from Nik Drennan of Burlington, Ont. The four-year-old American Ideal gelding, who took a mark of 1:50.4 earlier this year at Woodbine Racetrack, holds an 8-3-9 record in 50 career starts with earnings totalling $113,742.

Orillia Joe, Hip 89, rounded out the top three highest price purchases, selling for $66,000 to Joseph Pennacchio of Delray Beach, Florida. After winning his only start as a freshman, the Western Ideal gelding has put together a record reading 6-3-3 in 18 sophomore starts while pushing his bankroll to $85,416. He took a new mark of 1:50.4 in his last start on July 6 at Mohawk Racetrack.
